Java is an object-oriented, platform-independent, open-source programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. Java applets are programs written in Java that are embedded in other applications, typically a Web page. Java servlets and JavaServer Pages (JSPs) are server-side components written in Java that handle requests from Web clients.

NOTE: All hosting accounts purchased after 7/11/2011 do not support Java. Existing accounts with Java enabled are not affected by this update — unless you manually disable Java. Once disabled, there you cannot re-enable Java.
