Using Apple Mail with Your Email

Setting up your personal email account in Apple Mail® lets you send and receive your email using familiar tools. This article uses screenshots from Mac OS X® 10.6 Snow Leopard, but previous versions use the same settings.

Before You Start:

  • Have your full email address and account password ready.
  • Find your incoming and outgoing server names, click here to learn how.

To Use Apple Mail with Your Email


  1. Launch Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
  3. Click Create an Account (+ symbol).
  4. Complete the following fields, and then click Continue.
    Full Name
    The name to display on your email.
    Email Address
    Your email address.
    Password
    Your email account password.
  5. Complete the following fields, and then click Continue.
    Account Type
    Select POP or IMAP.

    NOTE: To use IMAP, your email account with us must support IMAP functionality.

    Description
    A description of the email address to display in the email account list in Mail.
    Incoming Mail Server
    The incoming server name determined for this domain. Click here for help finding your POP or IMAP settings.
    User Name
    Your full email address.
    Password
    Your email account password.
  6. Complete the following fields, and then click Continue.
    Description
    A description of the SMTP server to display in the SMTP server list in Mail, e.g. secureserver.net.
    Outgoing Mail Server
    The outgoing server name determined for this domain. Click here for help finding your SMTP Server.

    NOTE: You must have enabled SMTP relays for your account in the Email Control Center. For more information, see Checking Your SMTP Relay Settings.

    Use Authentication
    Select this option.
    User Name
    Your full email address.
    Password
    Your email account password.
  7. Click Create.
