Enabling Email with SSL on Your iPhone
After setting up an IMAP or POP account on your iPhone®, you can enable Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to prevent third-parties from potentially viewing your email messages. This article's screenshots use iPhone firmware 3.1.2, but previous versions use the same settings.
NOTE: iPod Touch users may also use these settings, but must connect via Wi-Fi to send and receive email.
Before You Start:
Web-Based Email contains information you need to do enable email with SSL.
- Log in to Web-Based Email at email.secureserver.net.
- From the Help menu, select Email Client Settings.
- Make a note of your outgoing server information.
- Continue with the procedures outlined below.
To Enable Incoming Email SSL
- From the Home screen, tap Settings.
- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars and choose the desired email account.
- Tap Advanced.
- From the Incoming Settings menu, slide Use SSL to ON.
- Tap Server Port and make the following change:
- IMAP - 993
POP - 995
- IMAP - 993
- Tap Save.
To Enable Outgoing Email SSL
- From the SMTP menu, tap the primary outgoing server for the account. This will be the server name assigned to your domain.
- Next to Use SSL, tap ON.
- Tap Server Port and change the port to 465.
- Tap Save.
