Yes. Like any other property, the owner may transfer all or part of the rights in a work. Transfers of copyright are generally done via contract. Copyright rights may also be bequeathed in a will. Although the U.S. Copyright Office does not have specific forms for transferring copyright, transfers of ownership can be officially recorded in the Copyright Office. Recordation of transfers is not required but may provide certain legal advantages. Consult an attorney or the U.S. Copyright Office to learn more about recording transfers of copyright ownership.
