To register a .ca domain, first check its availability through our website by entering the domain name and selecting .ca from the list. If the domain is available, you can add it to your cart and continue through the checkout process. During checkout, you must specify your Preferred Language, Registrant Name, and legal type. You must complete all of the fields, or your domain registration will be rejected. For more information about registering your domain, see Registering .ca Domains.

After you complete the domain registration, we attempt to match your account with an existing registrant account with us and with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA). If we identify a match, you do not need to complete anything else, and your domain displays in a Preset Profile within our Domain Manager. For more information about registrant accounts, see What is a .ca registrant account?. For more information about CIRA, see What is the registry for .ca domains (CIRA)?.

If we cannot match your information with an existing registrant account, CIRA creates an account for you and sends you an email message containing details about approving your new CIRA registrant account. The email contains temporary login information that expires within seven days or after you approve the account. You must approve your account within seven days or your .ca registration will be rejected. For more information about approving your CIRA registrant account, see CIRA's help.

After you approve your account through CIRA, the domain displays in a Preset Profile within our Domain Manager. You can only manage .ca domains through the .ca Preset Profile, which displays in your Preset Profile list as CA-XXXXXXX, where XXXXXXX is your registrant account number. For more information about how to view your .ca domains, see Viewing Your .ca Domain Registrations.
